Charities in 2023 Giving Machines connect asylum seekers to new communities, shelter chronically unhoused women, teach folks with Down Syndrome how to cook or dance, change lives and careers with job certifications, send local kids to the mountains for the first time, provide livestock for food and economic growth and help emergency responders deliver needed supplies.

Colorado Hosting Asylum Network (CHAN) Logo

CHAN is almost entirely volunteer-run and aids asylum seekers fleeing physical and political persecution. CHAN connects their clients with community members to create personal relationships and obtain material resources on their path to assimilating into their new life.

The Delores Project Logo

The Delores Project assists around 450 women a year with both emergency housing and supportive housing for disabled women previously chronically unhoused. Through offering shelter, housing and supportive services, The Delores Project helps women overcome their challenges to gain independence and self-reliance.

Global Down Syndrome Foundation Logo

GLOBAL Down Syndrome Foundation supports other Down syndrome foundations worldwide through networking and research sharing, but within the Denver area they offer classes and training for people with Down syndrome such as a ballet or football camp for children, fitness classes for adults, skills/job training, etc.

The Salvation Army Intermountain Division

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Intermountain Division is mostly known for helping with food insecurity and transitional housing. The Salvation Army also helps with addiction recovery, skills training and children’s programming.

Volunteers of America Colorado Logo

Camp POSTCARD is a program through Volunteers of America, providing disadvantaged children from the Denver/Aurora metro area with a first-time mountain summer camp experience. It focuses on providing safe, positive interactions between youth and first responders who serve as camp counselors.

Church World Service

Church World Service has a vision where everyone has food, a voice and a safe place to call home. Initially their mission was to provide food to the hungry and help those in need. Today they also provide shelter and services for asylum seekers and refugees worldwide and coordinate emergency disaster relief efforts.

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Their core services provide shelter and support amid disasters, emergency responders able to save lives, lifesaving blood and blood products, emergency preparedness, and support for armed service members and their families.

Giving Machines Background

Light the World is the annual Christmas initiative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At root, it is an invitation for all to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be a light to others during the Christmas season.

In 2017 the Giving Machine was born in response to a heartfelt question: “Can serving others be instant, fun, and memorable?” Since then, Light the World Giving Machines have appeared in cities across the globe, capturing the attention of media, public officials, respected nonprofit organizations, business leaders, other faiths, and the public. In the past few years, hundreds of thousands of people have donated US$22 million in goods and services to care for those in need—around the block or around the world.
