Light the World Giving Machines Denver FAQ

What are Light the World Giving Machines?

Vending machines where donating to charity is as easy as buying a candy bar.

How do they work?

Insert payment, select an item, and a card representing your gift drops into a bin so you can watch the donations pile up. The machines keep a running total of all purchases made.

How can I pay?

Credit card or mobile pay – just like a regular vending machine. (Sorry, no cash.)

Where are the machines?

A bank of four machines will be in downtown Denver at Writer Square, along the 16th Street pedestrian mall between Lawrence and Larimer Streets.

When are they open?

Machines will be open 24/7 from November 22, 2021 through New Year’s Day 2022. Volunteers will be there 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

What charities can I donate to at a Giving Machine?

Four local charities:

The Crowley Foundation Mentoring, life skills and career prep for teens and young men of color

Denver Rescue Mission Emergency shelter, meals and help for people experiencing homelessness

Jewish Family Service Food security, employment support and counseling to the vulnerable of all backgrounds

Project Worthmore Dental care, English classes, job assistance and culturally appropriate food bank for refugees

Two international charities:

CARE Poverty-fighting development and humanitarian aid and crisis assistance in 90+ countries

United Nations Refugee Agency Safeguarding the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee

What can I give?

You can select from 30 different items ranging from livestock to English classes to socks and underwear to dental care. Each charity has specified items they need the most.

How much can I donate?

Items range from $5 to $300. You can purchase multiple items in a single transaction up to $1500.

Why donate at a Giving Machine instead of some other way?

  • All of your donation – 100% – buys the item you select for the people you want to help. Machine costs and credit card fees are covered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • You get to actually see and choose what to give.
  • Enjoy everything downtown Denver has to offer during the holidays! Make it a date or a family outing.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Donations are eligible for tax deductions. Receipts will be available by text or email.
